Beyoncé x Renaissance Look Book

Just like everyone else, seeing the Renaissance Tour is the event I'm most excited for this summer. Also, like everyone else I have been obsessed with finding the perfect outfit. I had my outfit picked out before I even had tickets, but I was lucky enough to get tickets to two shows. On my quest to find the perfect outfit for the second show, I decided to make a look book of outfits for the concert using each song on the album as inspiration for a specific look. I had so much fun pulling each look together, I hope everyone enjoys the looks as much as I loved putting them together.

I’M THAT GIRL

While she says “it’s not the diamonds, it’s not the pearls,” the diamonds and pearls only enhance this look. When I think about what being “that girl” means, it means stopping a show and that’s exactly what this Retrofête gown does. This look speaks for itself and exudes confidence, the most important characteristic of being “that girl.”

COZY

This look was inspired by Miu Miu’s F/W 2023 collection because nothing says “cozy” like walking around in super fancy underwear, right? While the look was inspired by Miu Miu, these Dolce & Gabanna high waisted panties paired with a dazzled sweatshirt and tight from D.Bleu Dazzled brought my vision together. It was also really fun to incorporate D.Bleu Dazzled into this look book, considering I was introduced to Destiney Bleu when she provided so many wonderful looks for the Black Is King visuals.

ALIEN SUPERSTAR

This was the first complete look I created for the lookbook. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to incorporate the Kim’s Alien x Judith Leiber bag into the look. Then I came across this GCDS dress that screamed “I’m too sexy for this world,” and I knew I had found the perfect dress to embody Alien Superstar. To complete this look, I envision long, wet hair look with silver, metallic eyeshadow and highlighter.

CUFF IT

“Cuff It” sounds like the song that would be played at the height of a disco party. I see platforms, bell bottoms, big hair, and glitter… and that’s what inspired this look. These Circus by Sam Edelman platforms were the first piece I found and built the look from there. If you’ve followed me for a while you know I love wearing pink, so it was easy to pull the pink from the shoe and run with that idea. This look is flirty and fun, perfect for “falling in love.”

ENERGY

When I was trying to bring this look to life, I kept hearing, “Gold links, raw denim. You know that we do it grandé,” over and over again. Initially, I was looking for some really cute denim shorts with gold embellishments when I came across these gold Tom Ford shorts. Finding these shorts made me look at those lyrics as less of a suggestion and more of a concept. I paired the shorts with a Tom Ford shoe, Jimmy Choo bag, and Versace denim top because it gives extra for when the camera goes, “pop-pop-pop-pop-pop-pop!”

BREAK MY SOUL

When I hear “Break My Soul”, I think Sunday’s Best. Of course, this comes from the choir being heavily incorporated into the song. Since they say “come as you are”, I figured there was nothing wrong with pulling together a Sunday’s Best look that is a little more revealing, because Beyonce. This Retrofête set is exactly what I was looking for. Paired with these beautiful Cult Gaia shoes and feather bag, the look is testament to your soul not being broken.

CHURCH GIRL

“Church Girl” is the first song on Renaissance I fell in love with. The beat is infectious and just makes me want to move. My inspiration for the look was a Bounce Rodeo. I visualize the fringe taking on a life of its own when I hear “drop it like a thotty, drop it like a thotty.” I almost gave up on the concept, but when I found these embellished, fringe Mugler shorts, I knew the vision was alive. I completed the look with these over-the-knee Giani Bini cowboy boots and rhinestone cowboy hat, which I intend to see many of at the shows, due to the promotional image for the tour.

PLASTIC OFF THE SOFA

The inspiration for this look was none other than Deena Jones, Beyonce’s character in Dream Girls. When I hear this song I picture myself being sung to in an intimate setting. When I saw this barely there dress I thought to myself, “Deena would look great in this!”

I decided to pair this Retrofête dress with the L’Amour Petit X Judith Leiber bag as a symbol of the love mentioned in the song.

VIRGO’S GROOVE

I know what you’re thinking. That this is the same look as Plastic Off The Sofa. And you are correct, because Plastic Off The Sofa into Virgo’s Groove is my favorite transition on the entire album. If Plastic Off The Sofa is an early dinner with your significant other, then Virgo’s Groove is a late night outing with your girls. I chose this jumpsuit for better mobility and being able to dance. I also switched from the heart-shaped Judith Leiber to the martini-shaped Judith Leiber to match the occasion.

MOVE

“Move” is a song about taking up space, demanding a room to give you their full attention. That sentiment is wholly embodied in this Hanifa Cici Knit Dress. The high, side slit really steals the show, so I kept the accessories simple to let the dress be the showstopper its intended to be.

HEATED

“Heated” is my absolute favorite song on the album. It activates me. As soon as I hear “Gotta lotta bands, gotta lotta Hermés on me,” I am CHARGED UP! The inspiration for this look was solely the lyrics.

Fleur du Mal recently released the So Money Collection and the So Money slip is perfect for this look. I paired the slip with some very luxurious accessories; Tom Ford shoes, Hermés bag, Tiffany & Co. necklace, completing the look with Chanel earrings and Chanel Sunglasses. The look is for the designer loving girlies who “gotta lotta style.”

THIQUE

The inspiration for this look was “Freakum Dress.” Both “Thique” and “Freakum Dress” remind me of being in college, getting ready for a night out with my girls. Wearing little to nothing in the dead of winter with no coat to show off my curves and legs. This Luisa via Roma sequin dress with cut outs is the exact dress 20-year old me needed on those nights out. It hugs in the right places and shows of “that Thique.”

ALL UP IN YOUR MIND

The transition from “Thique” to “All Up In Your Mind” is ethereal. It sounds like what I imagine entering heaven to be like. An enlightening experience. This mesh set from Meshki, paired with pearl earrings, Cult Gaia pearl clutch, and Kurt Geiger mule looks like what I imagine opening your third eye to feel like. Also, an enlightening experience.

AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM

“America Has A Problem” is very, very 80s and I showed that in this look with the sequin blazer dress with small shoulder pads. The Brick Phone Call Me x Judith Leiber bag really brings the 80s theme to life.

PURE/HONEY

When I listen to “Pure/Honey”, it motivates me to move with purpose. The start of the song reminds me of an 80s aerobics workout tape. Hearing “it should cost a billion to look this good,” is perfect motivation to get through an intense workout and the Money Biker set from D.Bleu Dazzled, Bottega Veneta belt bag, and Prada trainers are motivation as well because when you look good, you feel good.

When the song transitions into the Honey portion of the song and the music is more upbeat, I picture an intense barre class… if you wore heels to barre class. Barre interprets elements of ballet, which is why the Spandex Max Crop Turtleneck and Spandex High Thong from the Deluxe Dance Class collection by Laina Rama was the ideal choice for this look. The Loewe Metallic Bow sandals are the perfect shoe to pull this look together… if you were to wear heels to barre class.

SUMMER RENAISSANCE

This look was the last look I put together. Not because I curated this look book in the order of the album, but because I knew exactly what I envisioned for the look. Nothing I came across was cutting it… Then I saw this Bronx and Banco sequin dress with feather trim and suddenly the look was complete. I threw out the idea of incorporating all the luxury fashion designers mentioned in the song. Instead, I chose to pair the dress with a copper Telfar bag and Stuart Weitzman feather heel. The dress alone gives very much, “I’m in my bag,” which was the intended goal.

I hope these looks provided some inspiration to anyone still trying to pull together the perfect look. The tour starts May 10, 2023 in Stockholm, Sweden. I can’t wait to see what everyone’s looks for the tour of the summer.
